June 9, 2010 – MEETING MINUTES

Call to order: President Chris Russell called the meeting to order at 7:02 pm @ Brighton High School.

Treasurer Report: $7351.51 Per Rob Michel

Fundraising Committee:

Golf Tournament

Coach Sandoval reported that the Tournament went well. There were a few silent auction items left over that we will keep and use at another fundraiser.

Lift-A-Thon

This event will take place on August 6th.  The coaching staff will take the lead on this fundraiser.

Old Business:

Coach Sandoval had the Senior players go and take a picture for the magazine that will be on sale at all the home games.  The magazine is Colorado football Guide and will cost $10.00.  The magazine will contain information about Colorado’s top players, their positions, divisions ect…

Coach Ortega will get a cost of the binders he would like each player to have.

New Business:

Coach Sandoval gave a recap of the Adams State Football Camp.  Overall the camp went really well.

  • We were the largest school there with 43 players
  • 6 other schools attended
  • Palmer Ridge came ready to play us and other top schools
  • Ran a total of about 140 plays
  • All players got many reps in
  • 2 trips to the Emergency Room-One player with a shoulder injury
  • The cost of the bus was $500.00 less than last year
  • They did have to switch buses for electrical reasons

Coach Ortega said that there was a lot of team bonding and that all the players behaved really well and even received a compliment (and a free meal!).  The players enjoyed themselves when they put on a skit and imitated the coaching staff.  Teambuilding is a lifetime memory for the players and he thanked the Booster Club for help in achieving this.

Coach Sandoval informed the group that there is a Combine 6/13/10 Sunday in Wyoming that 9 Seniors and Juniors are going to attend.

Chris Russell reported that he did send a $100.00 floral arrangement to the family of the owner of Mojo’s who passed away.

Chris Russell reported that he paid $10.00 for the business license and $30.00 for the web domain.

New Freshman class Representative is Dave Janousek.

Coach Ortega has information that he will pass on to Chris Russell regarding items to sell online from Denver Athletics.

Dave Janousek informed the group of the upcoming BYAFL playoff and championship games that will be taking place in Brighton in November.  The dates are 11/7/10 and possibly 11/17/10.  This will provide the Football program with a fundraising opportunity.

Charlotte Romero asked a question regarding the new $100.00 fee and what will happen to those players who cannot afford to pay the $100.00 sports fee the district will be charging.  Chris Russell replied that he would like to set money aside for this specific purpose.  More information needs to be provided to the Booster club from the Athletic Director’s Office so we can decide who and how much per player.  Treasurer Rob Michel believes there is a form that will need to be created and maybe there is one all ready set up.  As of now Chris Russell has this subject on hold until more information is gathered and at the next meeting we can make a definite decision.

Committees:

Kick-Off BBQ – Pat and Chris Tabor

Homecoming – Christie Russell, Shonette Fushimi, Theresa Martinez

Senior Night – Coach Sandoval-Gifts, Cheerleaders, Booster Club

Spaghetti Night – Asking Toni Gallegos

Concession Stand Inventory – Dave and Deb Lucero

The overall decision was to have it at the High School Gym and to have it catered.

Shonette Fushimi will call and find out if available.

Meeting adjourned at 8:10. Next meeting 7/14/10 at 7pm. BHS Library

Coach Sandoval and Chris Russell spoke about how helpful Coach Ortega has been in putting together information in an organized binder for future college reference. Chris Russell explained how Coach Ortega has really helped player Scott Russell in understanding how to find a college to play football at.  Coach Ortega puts together this binder for current lineman and it includes stats, evaluations, grades etc…Chris Russell would like to have this service paid for by the Booster club.  Coach Sandoval does keep records as well and he’s tracking profiles and GPA’s.  Coach Sandoval spoke about the importance of a Clearinghouse form.  The web-site for this form and information is ncaaclearinghouse.org.  All Players should fill out this form especially upperclassman. Committee reports:

N/A

Old Business:

Basketball Program sold all pizzas that were required for new program.

Last month all by-laws were approved.

Still in need of Freshman Class Representative.

New Business:

Concession building needs a lock on overhead door.

Chris Russell reported that Coach Sandoval will have his 7th hour move all items that are in the concession stand to the shed.

Chris Russell will speak with Mike Stoffler about concession stand leftover soda.  There are around 192 bottles left.  Possibly basketball, track or other groups would purchase.

The Brighton Recreation Center passed a new rule that would start charging the Booster Club a $25.00 fee for set-up each month beginning in May.  Shonette Fushimi will call around and look for a new location.  Possible sites were discussed: Fire Department, High School Library.

Fundraising was discussed at length.  Per Rob Michel and Tony Jackson there are two fundraisers that will take place.

Golf Tournament- this will be headed up by Sandoval.  There could be 3 teams participating in this-Basketball, Football and Baseball.  Possibly Football could get their own sponsors for holes.  Rob Michel will speak more to Coach Sandoval about the time frame for this.  Rob Michel suggested that earlier in the spring would be better.

Lift-A-Thon-This will be headed up by players themselves.  Per Tony Jackson this will be run in August, 2010.

Chris Russell would like to see additional fundraisers. Chris Russell opened this item up for discussion.  There were many suggestions and ideas.

Pancake Breakfast-Applebee’s, Chili’s, Pinocchio’s, or Mojo’s.  Chris Russell has spoken with Mojo’s about basic ideas for a breakfast.  20% of the proceeds would go to the team.  Players could be the waiters.  There is plenty of room to hold this.  Chris Russell will follow up more with them.

  • Carwash-Boys can work this event.
  • Fuhgidabowdit Pizzaria-They would like to be involved in some way.
  • Banner Sales-Sell around the field and near the scoreboard.
  • Table/Benches Advertising-Selling advertising on them outside of concession stands.
  • Large Cones for pre-sold parking spots that individuals can purchase and reserve.
  • Garage Sale-Post on web-site for everyone to start saving items to be donated.  Also, email everyone with this idea as we get a date set.  Everyone look for a location by next meeting.  Dave Lucero will call empty car lot near 85 and Bromley.  Shonette Fushimi will post signs and call newspaper.

After much discussion the fundraisers will be: Mojo’s for breakfast, Garage Sale, Lift-a thon, and Golf Tournament.

Chris Russell spoke about this upcoming year’s budget/financial situation and he said it looks good and he couldn’t see at this point any large items to be purchased.  Last year we spent money wisely.  Chris Russell told us that Coach Sandoval has ordered new jersey’s and the older jersey’s would be passed down.

Meeting adjourned at 7:55pm. Next meeting 3/10/10 and 7pm.
