The Bulldogs rolled over Adams City this week in the final game of the season. The team and coaching staff took advantage of the last home game by honoring our graduating seniors. From the beginning it was apparent that the seniors were to be the focus and the Bulldogs meant to make the last game of the season one to remember.

Chayce Weaver, following some great blocking by the offense, broke a running play for 82 yards on the first offensive play of the game to set the tone. The Bulldogs scored at ease the rest of the night with touchdowns by 4 different seniors throughout the game. Jake Mackey scored on a 12-yard reception in the 2nd quarter; John Jeffress made a 2-yard reception for a score to start the third; Matt Randall scored on a 2-yard run a few minutes later; and Ryan “Big Play” Delay scored the final touchdown on a punt return with a little help from Ronnie McNitt to end the game in a big way.

The defensive side of the ball was flawless and stopped the Eagles from ever getting close to the end zone. Joe Jackson and Edwin Ramirez lead the team in tackles with 4.5 each. Pierce Powers and the strong Bulldog defense, not to be content with letting the offense have all the fun, had a pick for six in the first quarter making the score 14-0 at the time.

The Bulldogs finish the season with a respectable 6-4 record and the promise of great things to come next year.

We will miss our departing seniors and are thankful for the dedication, outstanding efforts, and contributions they have made to the school, team, and Bulldog family. We all wish them the very best and continued success in everything they have before them in their bright future.

The Booster Club and all the parents appreciates to the entire coaching staff and particularly first year Head Coach Sandoval in their efforts, dedication, and support for the change brought in the 2009 season at Brighton High School.

With the Thursday night game snowed out, the Bulldogs had to reschedule to a Saturday game against one of the top ranked teams in the state, the Monarch Coyotes.

The Bulldogs played hard but fell short as the hard running offense and top ranked defense overpowered the Bulldogs in a difficult loss. The team showed some real determination by staying tough the entire game and holding Monarch scoreless in the 4th quarter.

The offense moved the ball against the tough defense and showed some improvement but could not finish drives or find the end zone. The Brighton passing game had some success this week with 85 yards.Scott Russell ran for 22 yards and caught 3 passes for another 30 yards for the best showing of the Bulldog offensive players.Ryan Delay had another good game returning kicks with 58 yards on returns.

The defense faced the biggest challenge of the year and played aggressive all day against the powerful run attack. Top defensice players were Joe Jackson with 9 tackles and Aaron Welch with 8.5 tackles.

The Bulldogs look to get back on track next week against Adam City in the final game of the 2009 season.

The Bulldogs faced a tough Ralston Valley team this week on the road. The early game started at 4:00pm with Bulldog fans and players tense with anticipation waiting what was expected to be a test for the Bulldogs team looking to bounce back from last week.

The Bulldog offense sputtered against a fast, aggressive defense holding the Bulldogs to only 102 total yards. Passing came from both quarterbacks with Scott Russell posting 26 yards in the first half and Michael Tabor with 21 yards and a touchdown pass to Tre Robinson in the second half.

Top rushers were Dominique Mathews with 40 yards and Scott Russell with 13 on the ground.

The Bulldog defense did a good job slowing down the strong run game of Ralston Valley but had trouble with the pass defense allowing 4 touchdowns in the air.Stats for top defensive performers are not available at this time but Joe Jackson, Pierce Powers and Matt Randle had lots of action throughout the game.

Ryan Delay had a huge kick return for 99 yards and a score in the 3rd to put the Bulldogs on the board.

While the Dogs suffered a tough loss they showed a lot of heart and kept playing hard through out the game. Both sides of the ball showed improvement over past years against the huge, stacked team of the Mustangs

The Bulldogs had a tough time getting the offense going this week in what turned out to be a defensive struggle with the Gators from Standley Lake.

The Bulldogs took the field Friday knowing they were up against a fierce Standley Lake team.

The game went back and forth all night with neither team able to advance the ball much past the 50-yard line. The Brighton Defense played a great game and managed to stuff the run attack most of the night allowing only a field goal in the first quarter of play.

Both teams had some chances to blow things wide open with a much-needed score but never quite put a drive together.

The Bulldogs played a tough disciplined game overall and while they could not get in the end zone they showed character and poise by playing hard all night and showing they can play with any team in the league.

Bulldogs win on Homecoming PDF Print E-mail

With the stands full of students excited about the homecoming week fun and activities and parents and fans anxious for another win, the Brighton Bulldogs entered the stadium with the confidence and poise of a team expecting to win.

The players had worked to stay focused all week and it showed on the field.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick lead on a long punt return by Ronnie McNitt in the 1st quarter to make it 8-0.

As the cold started to settle in and the conditions getting worse by the minute the Bulldogs defense keep a tight hold on the Thornton offense allowing just one score in the 2nd quarter and denied the extra point, keeping the score 6 to 14 at halftime.

The Bulldogs came out like a team determined to hold off the cold and keep things warm with lots of scoring fireworks in the 3rd. The offense blasted through the Thornton line keeping the ball on the ground and amassed 36 points in the third quarter.

Michael Tabor found the end zone 3 times on Friday and rushed for 71 total yards, with his longest run of 17 yards and a score in the second quarter.

Dominique Mathews ran for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Dom had two break away runs for 32 and 35 yards that both ended with a score in the third to put the game away.

Special teams did a great job as well with two returns back for a score, one by Ryan Delay coming after a safety.

The Bulldog defense continued their stingy ways allowing only six points again this week. Joe Jackson led the defense with 8 tackles and Matt Graves stayed strong on his end with 6.5 tackles and recovered a fumble. Ronnie McNitt and Chris Douglas both had an interception to help thwart Thornton’s offense in the third and forth quarters of play.

As the game wore on, the cold forced fans out of the stands and into anyplace warmer for the fourth quarter, which thankfully ticked by quickly under the mercy rule. The final score was 50-6

The Powers family endured the cold to the bitter end and won the Homecoming game ball raffle when their number was called to start the 4th Quarter.

The cold did not stop the players and fans from a great after party at Mojo’s. With about 100 frigid and hungry fans attending, the players enjoyed an exciting homecoming victory and basked in the glory of winning at home in tough conditions.
